There is a chance that San Francisco, will have its first Asian-American mayor.
There has been a number of events that have been building up to help get this candidate elected according to this article.
Electing an Asian American mayor for a major step for Asian Americans in politics, this will help pave the way for future APAs and maybe inspire future generations to think about career choice in politics.
Even though I am not from San Francisco, this story seems similar to that of another APA that won a seat in the House of Representatives two years ago, in Louisiana. A major difference is that there is a sizable APA community in San Francisco that will probably elect Chiu, and Chiu already holds a position in the local city government. Having a base will definitely help Chiu in the long run.
